$750,000 fund created by Spruce Credit Union to support local initiatives
PRINCE GEORGE- The Spruce Credit Union Board of Directors has established a significant new fund to support community initiatives in Prince George over the next 2-3 years. Directors met to sign a $750,000 cheque to establish the new Legacy Community Fund. According to Spruce Credit Union CEO, Ken Dickson, this comes just days before Spruce Credit Union will officially merge with Interior Savings.
“This Fund was made possible by our members and by the founders of Spruce Credit Union who set in motion, some 70-years ago, an alternative way of banking that puts people before profits and keeps money working here for the betterment of our community,” he stated.
As a result of the merger, Spruce will eventually rebrand as Interior Savings and its two Prince George branches will form part of a network of 23 Interior Savings branches across the BC interior. However, for the next little while, it will be business as usual for the Spruce members.
The fund will be held by Interior Savings Credit Union and granting decisions will be made by an advisory committee of six current Spruce Credit Union board members.
