UPDATE- 2:54 PM

HOUSTON- BC Highway Patrol confirmed the single passenger of the vehicle has died.

Emergency crews are still on scene, and Cpl. Mike Halskov with BC Highway Patrol says the highway remains closed in both directions. Halskov says the highway should be opened up to at least commercial traffic soon, but residents can check DriveBC for updates.

RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson says a Pontiac Sunfire collided with a logging truck. The driver was found deceased on scene and the logging truck driver was medically assessed.

“After the initial collision, the log truck and car came to rest on a spur line of CN rail.CN was notified and they shut down the rail. Rail traffic has since resumed. The crash had closed the highway to all traffic and a detour for light traffic has been established,” added Saunderson.

The investigation is in the early stages and causal factors are yet to be confirmed. Road conditions were icy at the time and police do not believe there is anything suspicious with the crash. The BC Coroners Service is conducting a parallel investigation into the cause of death.
