PRINCE GEORGE– Long-term care restrictions announced on January 4th have complicated visiting a loved one in a care home. With COVID-19 cases climbing, it brought along additional safety measures like rapid tests when entering the building and only allowing essential visitors.

However, Linda Kershaw who’s dad is currently in one of these homes, has to take a rapid test to go visit him, and believes the system is unfair. Kershaw doesn’t have a problem with taking the test to see her dad but believes workers at these homes, whether it be nurses, laundry people, or even janitors should also take the rapid test.

She’s not alone either. Tammy Schulte is voicing similar concerns about the testing with her mom, Elvina in long-term care. She says when she asked Northern Health about the testing they said workers do not have to take rapid tests.
