Council settles on 3% tax increase for 2022
PRINCE GEORGE – After more than 12 hours of budget deliberations between Monday and Wednesday, Prince George City Council has settled on a 3% increase to taxes for 2022.
The proposed tax increase for residents started at 6.55%, although after cutting $807k in spending, and using just over $3m of COVID-19 Safe Restart Funding to lower the tax levy.
Council did not get to 3% without floating the idea of several other tax increases in the final moments of Wednesday night’s meeting.
Motions of both 3.8%, and 3.5% respectively were defeated before the room came to a majority.
