PRINCE GEORGE– You may have gotten your first, and your second, but what about your 3rd?

Northern Health and the province of BC are now encouraging residents to get a 3rd jab of the vaccine to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

There are many questions people have with the most common one being what does the 3rd dose of the vaccine have that the first and 2nd don’t? Medical Health Officer Dr. Rakel Kling says it ensures that you get extra protection from the virus as well as helping minimize any injury or hospitalization that comes along with it.

Here in Northern BC, 84% of the population age 12 and older have received at least one dose while 80% are fully immunized with two doses. As for the 3rd dose most regions are hovering between 33-40% however Prince George has seen about an 8 or 9 % increase in the past week.

Northern Health is continuing to encourage parents to make sure their 5-11-year-olds get their first dose of the vaccine. They add the opportunity to get their second dose might not be too far away.

Many places including the Civic Centre are offering third doses of the vaccine however Northern Health is letting citizens know by text message when it’s time to book an appointment.
