Another drop in the unemployment rate for Prince George

OTTAWA- The numbers from Statistics Canada this morning, bode well once again for Prince George. The unemployment rate slipped to 3.6 percent last month, compared to 4.1 percent in December, and 6.8 percent in January of 2021.

That despite the fact the economy lost 200-thousand jobs in January. The loss is largely attributed to stricter public health rules put in place to slow the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

BC’s overall jobless rate dropped to 5.1 percent last month, from 5.4 percent the previous month. The national unemployment rate rose to 6.5 percent last month, compared with 6.0 percent in December.
