PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George and area residents can put on their bell-bottom pants, crop tops, and jumpsuits. Although depending on the weather, they may need some warmer clothing underneath.

Kyle Sampson Productions announced Friday (Feb. 4) evening that Ice Disco at the Oval will take place at the Outdoor Ice Oval behind CN Centre. Funds from the community event, that’s being described as a roller disco on ice, will go towards Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society.

“We are really excited to kick off 2022 with the first large community gathering in many, many months,” Event Producer Kyle Sampson says. “This event is really an attempt to, once again, bring back some normalcy into our lives. Prince George is a winter city, and we usually have so many great winter celebrations and gatherings, but COVID-19 has made it difficult for the usual events to go forward.

Sampson says milder temperatures in the forecast and current public health guidelines will allow comfortable outdoor gatherings to take place. He adds Ice Disco at the Oval will have a sound system and light show, along with a food truck, face painting, skate sharpening, games and prizes, and a firework display at the end.

The goal is to raise $20,000 for Prince George Hospice.

“It is really exciting to be part of the first big event of 2022 in Prince George,” Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society Executive Director Donna Flood says. “Our community needs and deserves opportunities like this to gather, and like Kyle said, we’re a winter city – what better way to raise funds for Hospice but through an outdoor winter event.”

Ice Disco at the Oval begins at 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 12). The Zamboni will lay a fresh sheet of ice at 5 p.m. before the event resumes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Entry and participation are by donation.
