Local RCMP present crime stats for 2021
PRINCE GEORGE – The local RCMP painted a grim picture of crime in the past year for Prince George.
During budget discussions at the end of January, RCMP Superintendent Shaun Wright was asked why, at $30 million, the policing budget is so much higher than peer communities.
Looking at the top five cities in BC with the highest crime rate, which include Vancouver, Surrey, Prince George, Kelowna and Burnaby, the number of Criminal Code offences per capita is much higher. In fact, the average number of cases per member in Prince George for 2020 sits at 121, whereas the same statistic for Nanaimo is 76, 82 for each member in Kamloops and 78 per member in Kelowna.
