Mental Health top of mind for Cariboo Hockey

PRINCE GEORGE – The hope is to start the conversation for the Cariboo Cougars.

This weekend, Cariboo Hockey will be putting on their Mental Health Awareness Weekend when the U18 Cougars take on the Greater Vancouver Canadians on Saturday, at 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, at 10:30 a.m.

The weekend is part of the BCEHL’s league-wide initiative, maintaining its support of Buddy Check for Jesse to help provide mental health education and awareness. The goal of Buddy Check for Jesse is to empower and encourage youth and young adults to support one another as we all work to destigmatize mental health.

Cariboo is looking to build off of their performance last weekend, completing a weekend sweep of the South Island Royals. Head Coach Tyler Brough believes his team needs to have more trust in themselves but believes with eight games remaining they are beginning to hit their stride towards the end of the regular season.

Currently, they rank fifth in the league with a 13-11-1-3 record.

This weekend, they take on the league’s second-best team in the Canadians (20-8-1-1).

The U17 team will also be playing at home while the U15’s are on the road in Victoria.
