Meryeta O’Dine inspiring athletes at former sports school
PRINCE GEORGE– Meryeta O’Dine is the most popular person around town these days and why wouldn’t she be. She’s the first Olympian to win a medal from Prince George and to top it off she won a second one only a couple of days later.
Though Something which separates her from other Olympians is she trained in her hometown, which is inspiring the next generation of athletes. O’Dine is the first Olympic medalist born and raised in Prince George and she not only won bronze once but twice.
When she was in Grade 9 she first learned about the Canadian Sport School here in Prince George. The school which is located up at UNBC is a facility that helps students manage their classroom studies all while training to become athletes. O’Dine enrolled and trained with the school for multiple years which saw her grow into an olympian. And even though the bronze medalist doesn’t know it yet, She’s inspired and opened the door for many students looking to become the next Olympic medalist from Prince George.
