Suspicious device found in abandoned car over the weekend
PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George RCMP requested the assistance of the Explosive Disposal Unit for a suspicious device located in an abandoned vehicle.
On February 21, 2022, just before 7:00 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received a report of a vehicle that crashed into a fence on the 4600 block of First Avenue. Frontline police located the vehicle and discovered the occupants did not remain at the location after the crash. Police noted some smoke damage to the interior of the car that appears to be unrelated to the crash.
Police were unable to speak with the registered owner of the vehicle so contacted a local towing company to remove it. While unloading the vehicle at the tow yard, a suspicious device was located in the car. Police secured the car in an area away from the public while they waited for the EDU to travel from the Lower Mainland.
The Explosive Disposal Unit arrived at the location around 4:30 p.m. that afternoon and successfully disabled the device. Investigators are looking to speak with anyone that saw the crash or has video surveillance or dashcam footage from between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in that area of First Avenue, states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.
