Purple Day March 26th

Epilepsy awareness day, or purple day

PRINCE GEORGE – Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, with over fifty thousand people living with epilepsy in BC. March 26th is Epilepsy Awareness Day or Purple Day.

The day was created to increase the public’s understanding. Quesnel resident Natasha Wasmuth first showed signs of the disease at 15 years old. As time went on, the seizure got worse.

After years of medication, neurological testing, and surgery, the seizures stopped. After the surgery, she is seizure-free and took on fundraising for others who live with the disease.

According to the BC Epilepsy Society, around 1 percent of the population lives with epilepsy.

A big focus of the BC Epilepsy Society is to assist those living with the disease and educate people on what and what not to do if they witness a mal seizure.

Even though Natasha Wasmuth’s worst days are behind her, she continues to raise awareness and fundraise for Epilepsy Quesnel in her spare time.
