Dr. Geoffrey Payne confirmed as UNBC’s sixth president
PRINCE GEORGE – After a long two years as interim President, leading the school through the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Geoffrey Payne has been confirmed as UNBC’s new president.
The Board of Governors convened a President Search Committee made up of students, staff and alumni. the committee hosted over 10 community engagement events. Based on feedback from those events the committee gave a recommendation to the board.
Dr. Payne was named interim president in February 2020 following the departure of the previous president Daniel Weeks. Dr. Payne’s interim appointment was extended in October 2020 by a universal vote from the board.
Dr. Payne’s time as interim president has been spent guiding the school through the pandemic as well as addressing budget pressures and helping ratify a collective agreement with the UNBC Faculty Association.
