PRINCE GEORGE – BC’s Children and Family Development Minister Mitzi Dean has named March 13-19 Social Work Week in the province.

Social workers, like many other professions, faced a lot of extra challenges during the pandemic according to Micheal Crawford, President of the BC Association of Social Workers.

“Over the past year, BC social workers faced increased demand due to the ongoing COVID pandemic while responding to new challenges presented by heat domes and wildfires, atmospheric rivers and floods, and the finding of unmarked graves of Indigenous children at former residential institutions, and wildfires” said Crawford,

Social workers are a diverse group of people working across the public and private sector. They work with society’s most vulnerable people across mental health, health care, senior services, social justice and several other fields. Even when we are not in the midst of a global pandemic social work is a challenging field.
