MP Doherty chosen as co-chair for Pierre Poilievre Conservative campaign

PRINCE GEORGE – Local Member of Parliament Todd Doherty has been named one of three co-chairs in BC for Conservative leader hopeful Pierre Poillievre.

Doherty said he looked up to Poilievre in his early days as an MP and the way he conducted himself in the House of Commons.

“One thing that has been amazing is that he has always taken the time to reach out to me to say, listen you are deeply embedded within your communities and your region, so how does something like this if we’re doing a policy platform for an election, resonate and impact those in your riding,” said Doherty.

Chris Beach, Political Science Instructor at the College of New Caledonia believes that the move could seriously benefit Doherty if Poilievre wins the leadership race.

Poilievre, currently the finance critic, is running on a very fiscally smart platform according to experts. One of his key promises is to eliminate the carbon tax should he be chosen as leader of the Conservative Party.

Beach said he is not surprised with the move for Doherty, given Poilievre is a front-runner in the race thus far.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of five candidates for the Conservative leadership had put their names forward including longtime politician Jean Charest, Leslyn Lewis, Roman Baber, and Patrick Brown.
