PRINCE GEORGE – Every year trying to book a campsite for many in British Columbia feels like a lottery, similar to trying to get tickets to a legendary concert or the big game, but that process has changed slightly this year with a new and improved website.

The new BC Parks website offers several new features to make the booking process easier than it was with the past system, one that has been known to repeatedly crash when overwhelmed with web traffic.

“I think that this new system is a vast improvement on the old system,” said George Heyman, BC Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. “It’s user friendly, it gives people lots of options to search for the parks they want and the dates they want.”

When the new system launched Monday, there were no crashes reported even when over 17 thousand people had made their booking in the first handful of hours the new site was open.

The strong opening day numbers are good news for Tourism PG as well who are hoping rubber tire traffic will remain popular despite the high gas prices.

According to SMP RV, formerly NR Motors, more people than normal have been buying trailers, RV’s, and campers as the supply of units reaches a number the lot hasn;t seen since COVID-19 started.

General Manager of SMP RV, JC Brown said the supply challenges which decimated the number of units for sale has been partly solved with even more on the way into Canada as restrictions at border crossings ease between Canada and the USA.
