Loons call for help to take a survey
PRINCE GEORGE – Birds Canada is a non-profit organization that calls itself Canada’s voice for birds. According to the group, Loons needs our help to identify what’s causing declines in chick production and find solutions.
They are asking lake property owners, and those who enjoy fishing or boating can help monitor and steward the health of their favourite lake by participating in an online Canadian Lakes Loon Survey.
The survey is the longest-running monitoring program delivered by Birds Canada. It launched 40 years ago with over 4000 volunteers that helped monitor the Common Loons on 4500 lakes. The survey has generated large amounts of information used to protect the species.
The survey can be found online at birdscanada.org/ loons.
