Geoscience BC releases local mineralogical data

NORTHERN BC – Geoscience has released more information about several years of information about mapping an area around our region for mineralogical value.

The Central Interior Copper-Gold Research project covers around 9,000 square kilometres in areas around Fort St James, Mackenzie, Prince George, Quesnel, Vanderhoof and Williams Lake.

The goal of the project is to determine the best locations for mineral exploration in Central BC. And in this day of green energy, some of the most important minerals are in this region.

The new maps are an essential part of the Surficial Exploration Project. They inform the collection and interpretation of new geochemical and mineralogical data from glacial deposits to improve understanding of the rocks below. Initial reanalysis results and map sheets for the northern part of the project were published in 2021, and final research results and reports are expected to be available later in 2022.

That research presentation is taking place at Kamloops Exploration Group conference today and will be part of an online community open house April 21.
