PRINCE GEORGE – Following a unique pandemic season, the Prince George pair of Gary Shalansky and Jamie Mould is headed to the national championships.

Shalansky and Mould qualified to represent BC at the Canadian Open Stick Curling Championships in New Brunswick set to be held in St. John, NB April 22-25.

The duo didn’t get a chance to travel or play many tournaments this curling season due to the pandemic although they have been getting plenty of play-time locally, often playing five games a week.

For the first time, the longtime curlers will represent BC after throwing rocks locally for over 60 years each.

The dedication of the two is what stands out the most according to Terry Phillips, Governor with CurlBC.

Stick curling is similar to curling, the only major difference aside from throwing with a stick is that the team is made up of only two. The makeup can vary as well, because of the rules on sweeping after the hog line, and throwing with the stick, women and men often compete together.

Over 80 people participate in the Prince George league, mostly seniors although curlers of any age, and any skill level can participate.

If you are interesting in joining the Prince George Sturling League you can contact the Prince George Golf and Curling Club in the fall closer to the start of curling season.
