Six years later Syrian refugee family is thankful for the help

PRINCE GEORGE – The city of Prince George is no stranger when it comes to welcoming refugees from war-torn countries. Six years ago, the town banded together to receive families from Syria.

Over the next several weeks, a repeat of what happened six years ago at the Prince George airport is planned for some Ukraine families arriving in Prince George.

Thirty-one homes in Prince George plan to open their doors to refugee families from Ukraine.

The federal government has set up an emergency visa that allows people to leave Ukraine.

Most families leaving their home country of Ukraine have reached out to host families through a social network and found a place to live.

Rose Toume says her heart is still in Syria but is grateful for where she lives now. Six years later, she is still amazed by the welcome her family receives.

As families trickle into our city, the group Prince George for Ukraine plans to assist both host and refugee families in connecting them to the resources they need.
