Ukraine Family arrives at YXS after fleeing country
PRINCE GEORGE– Cheers, hugs, and love were given to Lillia Huzenko, Olena Kramarenko, and her two children Yesenia & Hlib.
The Grandmother, Mother, Daughter, and Son chose to flee Ukraine due to the Russian invasion. They arrived on a flight from Vancouver Tuesday morning at YXS after the family spent a month in Poland. A hard choice to make leaving your homeland, and even your family as Olena’s husband decided to stay behind and fight. However, the mother was very excited to have a safe place for her children to live.
Share Hope is an organization in Prince George that helps settle and sponsor refugees in Prince George. The organization has been active for almost nine years and back in 2016 they helped bring a Syrian family to the city to help them escape from their war-ridden country. Eva Gillis the chair of the committee hopes they can help more families overseas and knows Prince George is a great place to do it. She also says multiple families have reached out to donate various items as well as inquired about hosting families in their own homes.
