Unemployment rate in Prince George below provincial average

PRINCE GEORGE — The jobless rate in Prince George stayed locked in at 3.8 per cent in April, significantly lower than the provincial rate of 5.4 per cent. The provincial rate increased from 5.1 per cent in March.

Statistics Canada says the national unemployment rate in April fell to another new low as the economy added another 15,300 jobs.

The unemployment rate came in at 5.2 per cent for April compared with the previous record low of 5.3 per cent set in March.

The drop in the rate came as the number of jobs in professional, scientific and technical services rose by 15,000 in April and the public administration category gained 17,000.
