Bigs of Northern BC hit by catalytic converter thieves for 4th time this year

PRINCE GEORGE – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC have been hit once again by thieves targeting their shuttle vehicles.

Around 2:30 in the morning Tuesday, thieves took the catalytic converter from one of the non-profit’s fleet vehicles. This incident marks the fourth time the organization has been hit since 2022 started.

“We’re hearing from other charities, organizations, and businesses that is is a going problem, it’s been a growing problem for us as well,” said Tim Bennett, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC.

The cost of the repairs is mounting said, Bennett. In this year’s budget, $5k was allotted for incidents of this nature shall one, unfortunately, occur. The tally for 2022 into May was already over $10k in repairs due to vandals.

According to the organization, this means a minimum of $5k taken directly away from children who could benefit from it. A total of 8, Connect Group Mentoring Programs or 6, 1:1 year-long In School Mentoring Matches who we now need to fund using other means.
