Prince George- The housing market continues to rise in Prince George and around the province, leaving a lasting mark on the renters market in P.G.

Rent in Prince George has risen consistently since 2017. The average price of a room increased by over a hundred dollars in that time, unfortunately for anyone looking to rent Paul Dainson of Rentals. Ca doesn’t see these trends ending.

“The rental market in British Columbia right now is through the roof. Rents are up and rising. I think in the next year, it will continue to rise,” says Dainson. “A lot of people through the pandemic have been moving into these secondary markets, and again it has put a lot of pressure on these markets. There is a lot of demand which leads to rents going up.”

Prince George is one of the quickest growing cities in all of B.C., primarily due to new students who attend the UNBC and CNC, Students who are struggling to afford to live in Prince George.

“You have to work to sustain the rent priced hear, and you have to work for food,” says Steven Von Cuevas of the UNBC student Graduate Society. ” it is not about nutrition, it is not about being social and getting yourself out there. It is school plus getting paid to afford rent.”

Prince George recently broke ground on a new student residence near the UNBC Campus, but that building won’t be ready until 2024.
