Prince George hosts Rotary conference for first time in nearly 20 years

PRINCE GEORGE – The last time hundreds of Rotarians came to BC’s Northern Capital the year was 2005, now the provincial conference is back in town.

The Seven Wonders of Rotary – District 5040 Conference began in the city Friday and will run throughout the weekend with events at the PG Conference and Civic Centre and at the BC Railway and Forestry Museum.

“About three years ago when I got the District Governor job, the condition was the conference had to be in Prince George, and I’m very proud to say we brought it here,” said District 5040 Governor Lorne Calder.

The event marks the first time hundreds of members of Rotary clubs from across the province have been able to gather since the pandemic. For local District Governor Lorne Calder having the event back in Prince George is fantastic.

Part of the event is taking in panel discussions held over various topics including reconciliation, peace and conflict resolution, and supporting the environment.

On Saturday a polio survivor from the Northwest Territories will also come to the city to share his story and build on the Rotary end polio campaign.

Some big announcements have come out of Rotary events held in the city over the years, the biggest of all perhaps was the reveal of Mr. PG as the city’s mascot back in 1960.
