To Your Health: Seasonal Depression
Prince George—Seasonal affective disorder or seasonal depression as it is more commonly known is a mood disorder that is identified by general sadness and lethargy during times of bad weather.
“Weather has a huge impact and obviously it varies from person to person but some people have an increased vulnerability to a lack of vitamin D,” said Maureen Davis, executive director of the Canadian Mental Health Association of Northern B.C.
Seasonal depression is mainly known as a fall and winter disorder but it can be felt year-round. During prolonged periods of rain, bouts of depression are common in those who are prone to the condition but it can affect everyone.
“Whether it’s pouring rain, sunny or cold, weather impacts all of us and impacts our mental wellness,” said Davis
