PRINCE GEORGE – Mounties patrolling in the College Heights area caught four impaired drivers this past weekend following softball games on the grounds of College Heights Secondary School.

Prince George RCMP is reminding the public to make sure they are enjoying themselves responsibly when it comes to celebrating, or commiserating, a sports teams’ wins and losses.

Police stopped four drivers in between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. who were found to be driving while impaired by alcohol. Investigators used an Approved Screening Device to determine the drivers’ levels of impairment: three of the four drivers produced a “fail” reading, and the fourth driver produced a “warn” reading.

“If you are old enough to buy liquor then you are old enough to understand the consequences of driving while impaired. Make alternative arrangements to get home safely without putting yourself and the motorists around you in jeopardy,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. The drivers who produced a “fail” reading were issued 90-day driving prohibitions and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

The driver with the “warn” reading was issued a three-day driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for three days. Police will continue to be on patrol for impaired drivers in our community throughout the summer months. We encourage everyone to enjoy their summer responsibly.
