UNBC receives 1.9 million in funding for new environmental sustainability initiative

PRINCE GEORGE- UNBC Announced this morning that it would be receiving 1.9 million dollars in funding from PacifiCan and the federal government of Canada. Funding to try to limit and solve Air, Water and Soil Pollution across the country.

Friday, the University and Federal Minister Harjit S. Sajjan announced funding for a new environmental sustainability initiative, a plan the federal minister believes is overdue.

“One thing our government believes is that we need to invest in innovation if we want to solve the planet’s problems,” Says Sajjan ” These homegrown solutions can have a global impact as well.”

While the Initiative will focus on air, water, and soil pollution, this is only the start of things to come for UNBC.

“It’s not just one project,” Sajjan said. “There are going to be many solutions that come out of this.”

Trying to provide a more sustainable, eco-friendly future, this Initiative will do great things for the community of Prince George and allow the university the opportunity to grow.

“This funding means a lot,” Said Dr. Hossein Kazemian, the head of NALS with UNBC. ” This funding will help us with the equipment we want, which we need for our research and the people. We have hired two people based on this funding.”

Dr. Hossein Kazemian is very confident that in the next 5-10 years, UNBC’s facilities will compete with the best in the province and the country.
