First ever Moccassin Walk 2022

Lheidli T’enneh – The First annual Moccasin Walk was held on Saturday, June 4th on the Lheidli T’enneh territory.

The sun was shining and the water was ice cold waiting for participants to stroll by. According to Tamara Seymour, who is the health manager for Lheidli T’enneh over 120 people signed up for the event.

“We just wanted to do something that is fun, healthy, and after COVID and being isolated for so long, we just wanted to do something fun” explained Seymour ” We usually attend the Sunrun every year, so, this year due to COVID and everything going on in our world, we decided to do it in our home territory.”

The event was created in order to promote health and wellness within the community but also create an opportunity for people to finally get together. something Chief Dolleen Logan says, was certainly needed with everything going on in the world.

“It feels great, I’m pumped, I’m excited, I’m being pulled in all different directions saying hi to everybody,” Chief Logan said

The entire event and all its proceeds are dedicated to the Lheidli T’enneh Elders Society. The first of its kind event raised over 21-thousand dollars. The funds raised will offset the cost of attending the annual B.C. Elders gathering, which is held in an Indigenous Community in B.C.
