“They’ve increased the amount of money for the seniors throughout the province. There’s an extra $1.5 million towards seniors which will translate to more dollars for seniors within our community,” says Krell. “There’s another group as well. There are extra funds that are being made available for the immigrants, for the Ukrainian immigrants. And we’re working with a few churches and community partners to get those out into the community.”

McGraw says the redemption rate for the Farmers’ Market coupon program is well over ninety percent, a certain measure of success for those who truly need the help. And McGraw has some kind words for the vendors themselves.

“They’re always super-friendly and just really personable. And the people really enjoy getting to go back week-after-week and chatting with the vendors that are just so friendly and really promote the program so well.”

Last year, local residents redeemed nearly $44,000 worth of coupons at the two local Farmers’ Markets and that number is sure to climb with the additional dollars this year.
