High streamflow advisory in place for Fraser River from Quesnel downstream
KAMLOOPS — The high river levels being experienced in a large portion of B.C. have now made their way to the largest river in the province.
According to a bulletin issued Wednesday (June 15), the B.C. River Forecast Centre (BCRFC) has maintained a high streamflow advisory for the entire Fraser River downstream from Quesnel, including through the Fraser Valley from Hope until the Fraser empties into the Pacific Ocean.
The BCRFC says the advisory was triggered by rising snowmelt and wet weather leading to elevated flow rates. The river is now being measured at a two-to-five-year flow rate at Hope.
The high levels are expected to remain for the next one-to-two weeks, and forecasters say the river will be vulnerable to significant events such as heavy rainfall and extreme heat during that time.
