Crime numbers down in Prince George according to the RCMP

PRINCE GEORGE– We’re almost halfway through 2022, and despite all the recent headlines detailing Shootings, stabbings, and arrests, Prince George RCMP says crime is actually down this year compared to last year with reports of Property Crime down 5%, and criminal code offenses down 10%.

Those numbers may surprise many, including Opposition Critic for Public Safety Mike Morris, who believes those numbers fail to factor in unreported crime in the community. Something he says is becoming more common because of the lack of consequences for prolific offenders.

Because of this business owners downtown are taking steps to protect their buildings. True North Optometry is one business that has had to make some changes to its store after being broken into last week. They believe it’s unfair to all the businesses downtown as they have to protect their buildings, clients, and staff daily, while also cleaning up their buildings.
