PRINCE GEORGE — Local Mounties are thanking members of the public for their help in the rescue of several people from the Nechako River early on June 30 th.

Prince George RCMP Cpl. Peter Rauliuk says at around 5 p.m. police responded to reports of people in distress in the water near the Foothills Bridge.

“Police attended the scene with the assistance of Prince George Fire Rescue, Prince George RCMP Air Services and several bystanders with boats who assisted in the successful rescue of several people,” he told CKPG News Friday evening. “RCMP would like to caution the public with floating devices due to rising river levels.”

Rauliuk added that the RCMP wanted to thank the civilians who assisted with their jet boat during the rescue. There were no significant injuries.

Cara Brinksy posted a message to Facebook page group Hell Yeah Prince George tonight thanking a man who she says jumped off the bridge and saved her daughter.

“She was in complete panic looking for her brother. I truly believe he saved her life. There are no words to express my gratitude! The kids learnt a big lesson and respect the power of the river now. Thank you all!!”
