BC Summer Games still in need of volunteers

Other sections that are needing more volunteers are the chaperone and security areas.

“I want to make sure that there’s some security at the games, that we have food venues as well. We got lots of support there and they we have accommodations being looked after,” explains James. “I really appreciate the support from the city. But, yeah we still need work in those areas.”

Renee McClosky who is the President of the BC Summer Games Host Society says they have about 16 hundred volunteers so far but are really hoping to hit closer to three thousand. If they don’t then they’ll have to shift around volunteers in other areas to make things work.

“It might be things like, you know, for example, [sic]maybe we had an idea that all the parking lots in the sports venues, we would have attendants to help park and, you know where to go and different things like that. And now we’re, you know, maybe those are some areas where maybe we’ll revert to using signage to do that.”

Prince George was awarded the 2022 BC Summer Games after a bid process in 2017. With past Games experience including the 1981 BC Winter Games and the 1990 BC Summer Games as well as Canada Games and 55+ BC Games.

The game will be hosted at several different venues around the city and games will be held from July 21st to the 24th. If you’re interested in volunteering your time you are encouraged to head to bcgames.org to sign up.
