Penny: Found Memories opens in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE- The story and history of the small industrial community of Penny B.C are now on display at the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum with Penny: Found Memories.

The newest exhibit at the Central BC Railway and Forest Museum is one they are incredibly excited about.

“Penny is a small forestry and railway town east of here on the railway,” said the Curator of the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum, Maria Martins. “It is exciting to host this exhibit here, all about Penny. We have the Penny Station on-site, and we can preserve it here because it’s so close to the original community.”

Part of the reason the museum is so proud of Penny is that local students entirely created this exhibit.

“Well, it’s been really neat. All of us come from different backgrounds,” said Kyra Egan. “It was great to bring those all together and have a great collaborative experience.”

While the exhibit aims to educate everybody who walks through it on forestry and railway history, talking to the students about putting together Penny: Found Memories was something they will never forget.

“I didn’t know much about Penny before I started this exhibit. I’ve learned so much about the community, industry, and town in the last couple of months. It’s been a great learning opportunity,” says Megan Yaskow.

Penny: Found Memories opened Saturday, July 16th but will be available until September 30th.
