PRINCE GEORGE– There are currently 5 off-leash dog parks in Prince George. However, the City is looking to add another one to a community in PG. Gladstone Park is one of two locations the city has proposed for a potential off-leash dog park for the residents of College Heights. The other location proposed is Latrobe park. Something one resident of the area finds concerning.

Jacqueline Friesen moved to Prince George just over a year ago. Her family bought a house beside Latrobe park for her two kids. So when a survey by the city was released explaining they were looking at the Latrobe park area to put in a fenced off-leash dog park, It was something that she and her neighbors in the area weren’t happy about. She points out the lack of parking, the potential dog park going onto her backyard, and the kids in the area, all as potential reasons a dog park shouldn’t go in the area.

A survey was released after the City identified College Heights as in need of a dog park, but wants to let residents know nothing is set in stone yet, as they won’t go forward with anything without feedback from the residents of the area.

However, they can’t wait too long as there are many dog owners, like Nicole Barager who have been pushing for a dog park in the College Heights area for years. The closest official dog park is the Ingledew Fenced Dog Park, an approximate 10-minute drive from College Heights. Something, not all dog owners can access and make it less about the community of College Heights meeting up with their dogs. Barager also said that the people advocating for a dog park want to emphasize they’re not trying to take away parks and space. They’re just trying to find unused green space in the College Heights Community to help give Dog owners a place to bring their pets.

The city will be taking feedback from the survey until September 2nd and encourage as much feedback as possible. You can find the link to the survey HERE
