PRINCE GEORGE- As the B.C. Summer Games took over Prince George this weekend, mixed in with all the athletes was a sea of orange shirts worn by volunteers.

“I can’t say enough about the volunteers,” said Renee McCloskey, the Prince George B.C. Summer Games president. “If you’ve had a chance to be around town lately, you’ll see an Orange Army. They are fantastic. Every corner of the community is doing every job imaginable.”

One of the volunteers was Mackenzie Kerr, who spoke about her experience during the games.

“It’s been an amazing experience. It’s so good to be a part of such a large event coming to Prince George,” says Kerr.

“We haven’t been able to have huge events like this in such a long time. It’s fantastic to meet everyone from across the province and watch these incredible young athletes compete and be outside with this beautiful weather.”

Both McCloskey and Kerr said seeing the community come together all for the same cause is something special.

“I’ve run into many volunteers I know in the community, and Prince George is such a giving community. Everyone wants to come out and volunteer and help out,” said Kerr.

The BC Summer games told CKPG News that they had nearly 2200 volunteers with people calling to help until the very last day.
