Kodiaks searching for identity ahead of their home opener

PRINCE GEORGE – When Saturday rolls around, the Prince George Kodiaks will be kicking off their first home game in franchise history when they play host to the Kamloops Broncos.

This week of practice, the team is working to improve their performance from two weeks ago when they ventured down to Chilliwack and were handed a season-opening loss by the Valley Huskers.

It was a tale of two halves, being step for step with the Huskers in the opening half before the inexperience of the league’s youngest team was put on display and the Huskers ran away with a 31-5 win.

Head Coach Keon Raymond says Week 1 is in the past now, and while there were lessons to be learned, they need to move on and look ahead to their matchup this week.

“It’s time to turn the page and work on our home opener,” he said Tuesday night following his team’s practice.

“We’ve got some film on the team we’re looking to play this weekend, whereas last week we didn’t. Now it’s an opportunity to do the work, the coaching staff and players to do the work and be able to show up on Saturday.”

Kamloops will come to Prince George after losing their season opener last week against the Vancouver Island Raiders. After having Week 1 as a Bye, the Broncos lost 14-7 at home and only mustered up a touchdown in the opening quarter.

The Kodiaks have had two weeks to prepare, and Raymond believes this team will get substantially better week to week, and the development of his players will accelerate as they grow accustomed to the level of competition in the BCFC.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Masich Place Stadium and kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Season tickets and individual game tickets can still be purchased through TicketsNorth.

The Kodiaks Kickoff 50/50 will also be handed out on Saturday. The deadline to buy tickets is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. A guaranteed $200,000 will be handed out to one lucky fan.
