Mayoral candidate promising big changes at city hall if elected

PRINCE GEORGE — A candidate for mayor is pledging to “clean up our downtown.”

Adam Hyatt calls downtown Prince George “a total disaster zone” and would like to transform the Prince George Youth Custody Centre into a world class rehabilitation centre, which he believes will improve the situation.

“Lets be honest, the BC government has been a huge contributor to the homeless and drug problem we are currently facing. They bussed all kinds of people into Prince George (many of them homeless) during the wildfires and their covid lockdowns (agree with them or not) only further increased drug use, mental health deterioration, and homelessness,” he says.

“They owe us this facility! I will petition the provincial government to hand this facility over to the people of Prince George and I will not rest until they do!”

If elected, he says he’d also hold city hall executives more accountable when it comes to their salaries. He says salaries should instead be tied to performance. He calls this plan the “fat cat rollback.”

Hyatt says it’s also time to “prioritize our policing.” By that, he means “getting back to the basics of policing – protecting people and property.”

Hyatt works in sales and was born and raised in Prince George.

The other candidates for mayor are Terri McConachie, Christopher Wood, Roy Stewart, and Simon Yu.

Election day is scheduled for October 15.
