PRINCE GEORGE — With the days getting shorter and a time change coming up, getting the right amount of sleep is important.

Sleep is something that none of us can function without, which is why it is important that we all get a good night’s sleep every night, but more things can affect our sleep than we think, even coming down to what we consume throughout the day.

After waking up, your day will reflect how well you slept, which is why getting 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night.

Brianna Pallot, pharmacist at the Third Avenue Pharmacy, says that all different kinds of factors can affect your sleep from medications to coffee.

She also recommends that if using a sleeping aid like melatonin to help with sleep, it’s best to consult with a doctor to find out what is causing your sleep problems before using sleeping aids every night.

With winter approaching, there will be less hours of light in the day which could affect your sleep. A reminder that we will have a time change on Sunday November 6 at 2:00 a.m. and you will need to set your clocks to one hour behind.l

With the dog days of winter ahead, getting enough sleep is vital to making sure that you will be well rested not only for the day ahead, but it will also be incredibly beneficial to your overall health in the long term.
