PRINCE GEORGE– Since his very first game, Nico Myatovic has made an impact on the Seattle Thunderbirds. Now the Prince George’s native is set to take foot on the CN Centre for the first time in his WHL career, playing for the opposing Seattle Thunderbirds this weekend.

“It’s going to be a special night Friday and Saturday, there’s going to be lots of friends and family. My first Western League game, so that’s going to be pretty special, and looking forward to it.” – Nico Myatovic, Seattle Thunderbirds

Myatovic was born and raised here in Prince George starting his junior hockey career with the Caribou Cougars before being taken by the Thunderbirds in the 2019 WHL Prospects draft. For his parents, keeping Nico in Northern BC was the goal, knowing he had the tools around him to play great hockey.

“Prince George has a great minor hockey program and there are lots of great quality coaches here. So we are lucky we are able to keep him here as long as we could. And we’re proud that we’re from Prince George and we’re proud we’re from the north.” – Karen Myatovic, Nico’s Mother

The 17-year-old has been playing great this year. He has racked up 4 goals so far and will be looking to add to the total for the rest of the season. As a result of his play, Myatovic ended up on the NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to watch list for this year’s upcoming draft. Although it would be a massive accomplishment, both Nico and his family are just taking it one step at a time.

“I think that’s always in the back of your mind a little bit. But like I said earlier, team success kind of brings on personal success. So I think as long as the team keeps doing well, good things will happen for me.” –Nico Myatovic, Seattle Thunderbirds

And when it comes to Friday & Saturday you can be sure to see Nico’s family and friends decked out in Thunderbirds gear.
