MACKENZIE — Yesterday (Nov.7) was a deadly one on northern B.C. highways.

North District RCMP confirm an adult male was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 39 yesterday morning just after 6:15 a.m. about four kilometres south of Mackenzie, while two women were killed in a two-vehicle crash just south of Chetwynd at around 3:30 p.m..

RCMP says icy road conditions were a factor in the fatal crash in Willow Flats, near Chetwynd. That crash involved a car and a pickup truck. The two deceased were in the car, with RCMP saying the pickup driver was uninjured.

Police say the collision near Mackenzie involved a semi-truck and a pickup truck, with the pickup truck’s driver killed. The driver of the semi wasn’t injured.

While an official cause of the Mackenzie crash hasn’t been released, RCMP say both crashes serve as reminders to motorists to be prepared when driving in winter conditions, including having good winter tires. They also urge motorists to drive to road conditions and to postpone trips when possible.
