British Columbia in for La Niña Hat-trick this Winter
PRINCE GEORGE- Ocean temperatures changes are a huge driver of global weather and climate, either a few degrees cooler or warmer, and there can be a major impacts on precipitation levels and temperatures, half a world away.
For the past two winters in a row we have been experiencing the impacts of pacific La Nina conditions. This year according to projects from Enviroment and Climate Change Canada, we’re probably in store for another weird year of winter weather, with colder conditions expected to last into the new year, and precipitation levels depending on how much moist air moves in from off the coast, plus the direction of the polar jetstream which funnels it into our region.
While it’s still too early in the season to say for sure, if the past two years are any indication, and if this years conditions persist as expected, then we’re probably due for another decent ski and snow season across Northern BC, as temperatures stay low, and storm clouds heavy with moisture, waiting for the right moment to dump inches of powder across the North.
