Roundtable discussion with BC government and gig workers comes to Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE — Gig workers across the province are being asked to provide input into the industry they work in, and workers in Prince George had the opportunity to have their voices heard.
Gig workers include a wide range of people, from ride-share app drivers to food-delivery workers. There has been quite a bit of growth and change in this industry, especially during the pandemic when more people were staying home and ordering in food, and some use ride-sharing apps as an alternative to a taxi.
The most recent statistics show that one in 10 Canadians in the workforce, which is equivalent to around 1.7 million people, were gig workers in 2016 and for those currently in the industry, there are a number of challenges they are facing, including pay.
