Business owner wants to bring attention to crime in industrial area

PRINCE GEORGE — If you have been east of Queensway you know that there are many industrial businesses located in that area and within those city blocks, are numbers of employees and business owners, and one of those is Sheldon White who is thinking about forming a group with other business owners to shed light on crime in the area and says its the last resort.

Sheldon White is the owner of Central Events & Tent and says that he has had to file seven police reports regarding break-ins, attempted break-ins and fires since June.

With little to no streetlights in the Queensway East area, White says that more street lights in the area could be a deterrent to crime and make people in the area feel safer when out in the dark.

Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris, who is the Shadow Minister for Public Safety says that this issue is part of a much larger problem. He says that he personally believes that there should be more RCMP officers so that there can be more officers on patrol.

Morris says that provincial government needs to do more to help the homelessness situation in BC, as well as end the so-called “catch and release” system, where those arrested for crimes are released shortly thereafter. Morris says that bigger, long term solutions will be needed to help correct the situation in order to make Prince George safe for everyone.
