SPRUCE KINGS RECAP

1st half of the season recap: Prince George Spruce Kings

PRINCE GEORGE– The Prince George Spruce Kings have fought tooth and nail after a lot of changeover from last year’s team.

As a result, it sees them in 4th place in the interior division with a record of 15-11-1-1. It also sees the Kings in a tight battle with 6 other teams in the division who are all within 2 or 3 games of each other.

The team goes into the break with a 4-6 record in their last 10, and although that might be concerning, General Manager Mike Hawes knows his players will do what is necessary to get back on track and start winning consistently.

“I know our guys, the character of our players. The staff’s working extremely hard. Our players take a lot of pride in what they do, so they’re going to battle hard and work their way out of it.” – Mike Hawes, General Manager, Prince George Spruce Kings

For the players, it’s a great break to have. Getting to go home and see their family for the holidays and not focus on hockey. Then coming back and bringing the intensity for the 2nd half of the year.

“I think it’s very good for mental and physical health to go home, get some rest, be with your family, and kind of connect again. Luckily, it’s not too long of a break. So we’ll be right back into the swing of things on the 27.” – Jack Stockfish, Spruce Kings Forward

The team now looks ahead to the second half of the year which also sees the trade deadline. GM Mike Hawes does his duty and is always looking to improve the Kings. Which doesn’t rule out trades being made before the January 10th deadline.

“I’m always talking to GM’s in our league and other leagues and then seeing what’s available, always trying to improve the team. If the question is will the team have some changes between now and the January 10th deadline, Absolutely. I have some cards that I can still use to bring some players in. So I would anticipate adding some more good players to the group before it’s all said and done. So we can have a real strong push to the end of the season and into the playoffs.” – Mike Hawes, General Manager, Prince George Spruce Kings

The team comes back to take on the Wenatchee Wild on December 30th and 31st before taking on the league-leading Penticton Vees at home in the new year.
