PRINCE GEORGE – 15-year-old Ryder Green has had an exceptional season for the U17 AAA Cariboo Cougars. The Prince George goaltender currently is 3rd for wins in the BCEHL for his age group. Owning a 9-1-1-1 record in the crease as well as a 2.52 GAA. It’s a performance he attributes to good team play and hard work during his rookie year with the team.

Green’s performance this year got him an invite to the Team BC Training Camp back in November. After a stellar showing at camp, he was named to the Male U16 roster and will be competing in the upcoming 2023 Canada Winter Games in PEI. When the goalie found out he made the team he was ecstatic and almost couldn’t believe it.

“It’s incredible. I was sh***ing bricks, to be honest. Then when I was told I was so relieved and just the happiest guy ever. It was an early Christmas gift for me!” – Ryder Green, U17 Cariboo Cougars Goalie

It’s an opportunity Green is looking forward to in February as he has connections on the island but has never been.

“I’ve never been down there, but my grandma has been down there. She told me it was really cool on the one side. I think that’s where we’re staying, so it will be pretty cool to explore down there”

Another opportunity Green got was practicing with the Prince George Cougars in the first week of January. The goalie got to sub into some drills for some reps. He used that opportunity to build on his game.

“It was an incredible moment. It’s a big call up and I really like the high-caliber play. I think I pushed myself harder out there too. I learned a lot like I got to put the rebounds in the good places and keep my good habits up”

The main goal ahead? Win a championship. But the Junior Cougar goalie also has another goal in the back of his mind.

“To score a goal, I really want to score a goal this year.”

Cariboo is currently 3rd overall in the standings with a 15-5-1-2 record
