PRINCE GEORGE — The Timberwolves fought hard, but Winnipeg got the better of them in university women’s basketball action Friday (Jan. 20) at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

UNBC erased a 13-point deficit to take a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter. But the Wesmen fought back and Anna Kernaghan drained a clutch three-pointer with 1:41 remaining to spur Winnipeg to victory, 72-65.

Sveta Boykova scored a team-high 18 points and added 16 boards for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves drop to 4-and-9 on the season, while Winnipeg improves to 10-3.

On the men’s side, the Wesmen held off a stiff Timberwolf challenge to beat UNBC 78-68.

Guard Justin Sunga led the Timberwolves with 20 points.

It’s the fifth straight loss for UNBC, who drop to 5-and-8 on the season.

UNBC will be looking for revenge Saturday, with the men’s game tipping off at 3:00 p.m. and the women’s game slated for 5:00 p.m.
