Cougars end road trip on a winning note, take down Oil Kings 4-3 in overtime
PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars are coming home from the Prairies on a winning note.
After going 1-3-1 in five games with stops in Lethbridge, Swift Current, Medicine Hat, Calgary, and Red Deer, the Cougars wrapped up their road trip with a 4-3 overtime win over the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Trailing 1-0 after the first period, a net-front Koehn Ziemmer put the puck into a wide-open net to tie the game briefly in the second, but not before the Oil Kings retook the lead 2-1 heading into the third.
But two quick goals in the third period turned the tables. Ziemmer moved across the Oil Kings’ zone off the rush to set up Zac Funk, who scored on the backhand, to tie it again 2-2. Ziemmer would strike again with a wrist shot from the right circle to give the Cougars their first lead.
