“Different Trains” highlights personal yet two different journeys
PRINCE GEORGE — On Sunday, a landmark performance was held by the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, and it was titled Different Trains, and the story of the performance is not about the trains you might normally think of.
It was composed by David Reich, and the idea for it came from his childhood when he would travel between Los Angeles and New York on a frequent basis. However, in his notes, Reich also says that quote” while the trips were exciting and romantic at the time I now look back and think that, if I had been in Europe during this period, as a Jew I would have had to ride very different trains.”
Members of the Prince George Jewish community were present for the performance, and the performance itself was impressive, with the piece being a complicated one to play in that the musicians are dealing with playback sounds while they are playing.
